Federal Councillor Martin Pfister visits the Spiez Laboratory
Martin Pfister, Head of the Federal Department of Defence, Civil Protection and Sport (DDPS), took the opportunity to visit the Spiez Laboratory on 10 November 2025 and get to know the employees and the various specialist areas personally.
Federal Councillor Pfister was warmly welcomed by the Director of the Federal Office for Civil Protection (FOCP), the Head of the Spiez Laboratory and his deputy.
Insights into research and areas of application
The focus of the visit was a joint tour of the various laboratories at Spiez Laboratory. During this tour, the various departments had the opportunity to present their work and their wide range of topics – from nuclear chemistry, biology and chemistry to CBRNe protection systems and the DDPS Emergency Response Team (EEVBS).
Close exchange with the specialists
Federal Councillor Pfister paid particular attention to direct interaction with employees. He took the opportunity to work in the laboratories himself – for example, measuring radioactivity, preparing samples for the analysis of chemical warfare agents and testing protective suits. At the end of his visit, Federal Councillor Pfister thanked the employees.
