Supporting the IAEA as a Collaborating Centre
Spiez Laboratory has been supporting the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) as a Collaborating Centre since 2016.
Collaborating Centres are scientific institutions such as laboratories, universities and research institutes in IAEA member states that work with the IAEA based on a formal agreement, particularly in the areas of environmental protection, food safety, resource management and healthcare. The IAEA currently has cooperation agreements with around 80 institutions worldwide.
Spiez Laboratory at the Federal Office for Civil Protection (FOCP) has been an IAEA Collaborating Centre since 2016. In this context, Spiez Laboratory provides the IAEA with its expertise in the analysis of radionuclides in environmental samples as a trusted laboratory. It regularly participates in international missions in the field of environmental safety. It also takes part in interlaboratory tests and comparative measurements and runs various training courses. In Switzerland, the École polytechnique fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL) has also been an IAEA Collaborating Centre since 2019.
